A training schedule is being developed and will be incorporated into the yearly schedule

For the good of the order:

A schedule (mostly tentative) was passed out for the year.

A new method of community policing was introduced which consists of people signing up for particular weekends. After a nuisance training we can start signing up for these.

People were encouraged to think about their availability to go to Michigan State University Academy and the Mounted Police Colloquim at the Kentucky Horse Park

Shirts – orders are needed from Wayne Baker before shirts can be ordered

Trailer stars – the plexiglass is in and at the Sheriff’s Department, the stars used to size the plexiglass will be in by the next meeting.

Training:

Training consisted of re-certifying people in First Aid/CPR for those that took the class last year.

Two training schedules are being developed; one that is department-wide, and the other is for UVSU meetings. Both should be completed by the next meeting.

Nuisance training begins next month. March 9^th has been cancelled. March 17^th will start at 10:00 a.m. and be at 1371 Boston Twp Line Rd. This is the first house east of 1307 (Alan’s house); it’s on the south side of the road. You may wish to park at 1307 as there is a circle drive there.

The home show is the 20^th-22^nd in March.

Michigan State University training is April 28^th. Anyone wanting to attend should have a completed application turned in to the Sheriff or Alan by Monday, February 25^th.

For the good of the order:

The shirts have been ordered and should be in by the end of the week. Alan will bring them to the next meeting and will need payment by then.

Trailer stars – the plexiglass and stars are both in and will be handed out at the nuisance trainings as people attend them.

Mark Baldwin has been accepted into the unit and will be notified by Alan.

People were generally interested in the Special Olympics Torch run June 6^th but we need more information about it; mostly the route and the speed.

Training:

The department and UVSU training schedules are not yet available.

The use of force General Orders were reviewed.

Mike Frame has received permission to allow Reserve officers the opportunity to attend certified IDACS class.   Obtaining this training will allow you to utilize the computer for all purposes as long as the regular officer has logged on to the system. The class will be held on Friday, March 15, 2002 from 8:30 am until approximately 11:30 am. at IU East - Middlefork Hall Room #124. If you plan to attend you should like Mike Frame know ASAP.

The 4-H committee in charge of the barn has voted to give us two stalls. We are supposed to get copies of the barn rules.

Torch Run – June 6^th - Start at city building, 9 a.m. to noon. Possible places for us to escort during a short distance are from K-Mart west, around 84 Lumber by the Highway Garage, and a few other places. Alan, Doug, Pam, and Jeff can attend for sure. Alan will correspond with Pam Mertz for more information.

Centerville Youth League Parade – June 19^th, starts at 1:00, be ready at the soccer field at 12:30. Alan, Terry, Carl, and Colvins signed up.

The Fountain City parade is Saturday, but nobody could make it.

Torch Run – June 6^th - Start at city building, 9 a.m. to noon. Possible places for us to escort during a short distance are from 84 Lumber to Carter Lumber, Jacksonburg/Persing area, Dublin to the county line. Alan, Doug, Bob, Mark, and Jeff can attend for sure. Pam Mertz has not finalized the plans but will around Memorial day. Alan is going to check and see if Mark can participate.

Main Street Moonlight Parade – June 8^th – Parade starts at 8:30; 14^th & Main, be ready at the jail parking lot at 7:45. Alan, Carl, Bob, Duane, and possibly Terry signed up.

Training:

Qualifications are today through Thursday, 10-6.

The department and UVSU training schedules are not yet available.

For the good of the order:

Colvins briefed us on their training at MSU.

Updated calendars were passed around

Bob, Duane, Carl, and Alan expressed an interest in having a second star to put on the back of their trailer. If the cost was only $35, they would be willing to purchase them themselves.

Eb Paddock had to resign from the unit as he has been hired at the jail.

Those that took the MDT training were wondering about certificates.

The Mounted Patrol has two stalls directly across from where we had them last year. Our stalls this year are in the southeast corner of the barn on the north side of the isle. If possible we’ll set up two portable stalls using 10’ gates behind the stalls.

Every so often the Fairgrounds trailer will dispatch two Mounted Patrol members to take money from the gate to the fair office.

August 3^rd – Williamsburg Parade at noon, be ready at 11:30 behind the school – Alan, Duane, Carl, Doug, Pam

August 10^th – Community Policing – none signed up yet

Sept 10^th – Sept 11^th memorial at IU East – there was a general interest in doing this.

Training:

July qualifications were moved to June; the next qualifications will be August 26^th-28^th; there may be another session before then.

Information on bringing instructors from the MSU class Doug and Pam went to is on the way.

Signs for the back of the trailers were discussed and it was decided that we would get a design similar to what is on our shirts and be put on a magnetic sign. The details will be worked out by Carl, Bill, the Sheriff, and Alan when we can find a star decal to put on the material.

Nominations for 2003: President Doug Colvin (by Rudy), Alan Moore (by Duane). Vice President: Duane (by Carl), Rudy (by Doug). Treasurer: Bob (by everyone). Mark Baldwin was also nominated for Vice President but you must be active for 1 year before you can hold office.

There is supposed to be a December qualifications but there is nothing official out yet.

The next 16 hour training is the 18^th and 19^th.

Make-up qualifications are Thursday from noon to 8. You can qualify with your back up weapon at that time or get remedial training if needed.

Domestic violence training is next Monday the 16^th at 6:00 p.m.

The 40 hour pre basic is December 16^th-20^th from 4p-midnight at the Sheriff’s Department
