Treasurer's Report:  $258.39 plus $50 undeposited.  The $97 will be returned to Paddocks in exchange for their shirts.

Training:

A yearly training schedule is being developed.  The first nuisance training is tentatively scheduled for March 15th.

The Palladium Item will be attending one of our nuisance trainings this year, probably the 2nd or 3rd one.  Sheriff Strittmatter will need to be notified beforehand so he can attend as well.

Nuisance training will incorporate some of the information from MSU.  Alan has Doug’s copies of the books and will get copies made and get with the department’s DT instructors.

For the good of the order:

Capt. Daggy, our liason/coordinator, was present and said that he hoped to expand the scope of the Mounted Patrol and have the Mounted Patrol more involved in the community.  Some interaction with Richmond Police Department may be coming.

Ball caps will no longer be worn while in uniform.  Officers are either to be bare headed or wear their cowboy or campaign hat.  Mounted Patrol Officers that work as reserves or in reserve capacity should wear the same footwear and hats as road officers if at all possible.

Equipment and general information forms were passed out and filled out by those present.

The stars for the backs of the trailers are in and will be handed out at nuisance training.

A youth/non-deputized division of the Mounted Patrol has been denied by Sheriff Strittmatter.

The tentative yearly calendar was handed out and corrections/comments were requested

Information about the Mounted Patrol will be added to http://www.co.wayne.in.us/sheriff/mounted.html (this page doesn’t exist yet).  This page is for the general public and an application for UVSU members will be there as well.

Information for Mounted Officers only is at http://www.escher.rmcfam.org/~alanmoor/wcsd.  Meeting minutes, general orders, yearly schedule, and duty roster are included.

Sheriff Strittmatter has approved the use of mock turtleneck dickies for enforcement officers.  These are not available for UVSU officers but should be before too long.

A new member information form was approved by Sheriff Strittmatter.  On one side is information on how to get your equipment, and on the back is a property requisition form that needs to be filled out and left in Capt. Daggy’s mailbox.

Next meeting:  The next meeting is at 7:00 p.m., the 2nd Tuesday of February AT EOC.

Treasurer's Report:  $229.96 in checking.  $50 + $97 + $120 undeposited for a total of $496.96.  The check for $120 was for security work done at the Kuhlman Center by Carl Thomas and a reserve.  Alan will check with the reserves and Capt. Daggy to see if they want ½ the check.

Training:

The departmental training committee met last week and will meet again either this or next Thursday.  Reserves and Mounted Patrol are encouraged to attend any departmental training they are able to.

A memo regarding UVSU officers and backup weapons was passed around.  UVSU officers are no longer authorized to carry a backup weapon and may not qualify with them.  A reply from Alan to Capt. Daggy which had not been given to Capt. Daggy yet addressed the issue of concealed weapons on out of state prisoner transports.

The first firearms qualifications date is February 18th-20th from 10a-6p with a break from 2-3.

On February 27th and February 28th there will be two identical 8 hour classes on Domestic Violence at the Kuhlman Center.  This is being sponsored by the city of Richmond and UVSU members are strongly encouraged to attend as under the new by-laws and also under ILEA regulations all UVSU members must attend the 16 hour training.  Colvins and Duane will attend on the 27th, Alan, Carl, don’t care which day they go.

Capt. Daggy checked with RPD about us attending the Richmond Roosters games to try to acclimate our horses to fireworks in case we are asked to help at the Richmond Fireworks Display.

First Aid training was presented at the meeting.

For the good of the order:

A draft of suggested revisions to the new by-laws were handed out and reviewed.  Capt. Daggy and Sheriff Strittmatter have decided that anyone active as of the first of the year as determined by the previous administration will be given a “clean slate” and shall be considered active now.  However, under the new by-laws there is an evaluation that occurs every 6 months that will determine whether a member is active and what classification they are, and these by-laws will be adhered to.   Final approval of these by-laws is expected by the March or April meeting.

A memo put out by Sheriff Strittmatter regarding the upgraded Homeland Security Threat Level was passed around.

Mark and Emery need planners.

Next meeting:  The next meeting is at 7:00 p.m., the 2nd Tuesday of March AT EOC.

Treasurer's Report:  $497.69.  The reserves said it was not necessary for us to split the $120 check with them.

Training:

The first nuisance training the 29th at 9:00 a.m. with a rain date on the 30th at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

There is no departmental training schedule available yet.

IPD has invited us to do some training with them; details will be coming when they know their schedule better.

The next firearms qualifications is April 28th-30th from 10-6 with a break from 203.

There is a 90% chance that we will have instructors from Michigan State University come down to put on a 2 day (12 hour) clinic for us.  A schedule was passed around for people to mark their preferences.

Richmond Roosters only set of fireworks at the first game and before the 4th.  Alan has spoken with the head of security for those games and he will be getting back to Alan with more information.

For the good of the order:

The policy regarding backup weapons has been modified so that and officer may qualify with one and only one backup weapon while working in an official authorized capacity (on duty) and in uniform.  If you are on duty but not in uniform and are carrying a weapon you are required to carry your primary weapon.

The home show is the 18th-21st from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.  Alan, Colvins, and Bob were interested if weather permits.

The final version of the by-laws is not available.

Mark and Emery need planners.

Colvins brought helmets that were being purchased by the 4-H members.  They are $17 each.  Everyone at the meeting agreed to purchase their own pending approval from the Sheriff (8 large and 2 medium).  The unit will purchase 3 additional helmets (1 medium and 2 large) to resell to new members.

Points for an orientation for new members was discussed and will be worked out with the Reserve Officers.

Next meeting:  The next meeting is at 7:00 p.m., the 2nd Tuesday of April AT EOC.
