UVSU On-Call Policy
The UVSU On-Call signup gives dispatchers and merit officers a way to know who is immediately available to assist with details that come up. For an outline of what an "On Call" UVSU officer can be called upon to do, see the on call list.
Any merit officer can call out UVSU officers to assist under this policy. If a dispatcher believes that an on-call UVSU officer could be used, they can check with the shift supervisor or senior shift officer and call whoever is on the on call list.
If there is no one on call and a UVSU officer is needed, contact the UVSU supervisor (Alan Moore - 969-0128).
Conditions
- If you sign up to be on call, you must be ready to respond within a moment's notice. This means (at a minimum):
- No alcohol
- You must have your uniform close by
- You must be in Wayne County (you do not necessarily need to be at home)
- If a dispatcher or merit officer calls your phone you are expected to answer immediately.
Signing up
- In order to put yourself on call, create a new detail with the description being "On Call" (upper/lower case and the space is important), and assign your name to the detail. Although not required you should sign up for at least a 4 hour block.
- You can sign up to be on call as far (or near) in advance as you like
- If something comes up while you are on call and you need to take yourself off, modify the detail's time to end when you take yourself off call.
If you are called out
- You must be in Class A or B uniform, unless approved by a supervisor
- Typically you should get a marked unit for all details you are called out for. If a unit is not available contact the UVSU supervisor
- An 800MHz radio is available in the front office on the desk that is southwest of Suzanne Bias's desk. Be sure and fill out the log (it must be returned immediately after the detail)
- Change your time on the On Call detail and create a new detail for the one you were called out for.
Credit
- Credit will be given for any detail you are called out for.
- Additionally, for each consecutive 4 hour block of time you are on call, you will get 1 hour credit.
- You can sign up to be on call and stage at the jail in which case you will receive credit for jail duties (plus any time as a result of being called out).
