Message from the Chief

Adam McQueen - Chief Probation Officer

"Probation is about more than supervision, it is about helping people make meaningful changes while keeping our communities safe. We believe that accountability and support go hand in hand. By using trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices, our officers work with individuals to address challenges, build resilience, and create opportunities for long-term success. Through strong partnerships and a commitment to treating every person with dignity and respect, we strive to reduce reoffending, strengthen families, and support safer, healthier communities."

    • Surround yourself with law-abiding people who really want to see you do well, such as friends, family, co-workers, and formal support groups.
    • Take ownership of your probation by becoming an active participant.
    • Be open to guidance from your Probation Officer.
    • The responsibility for making changes in your life is yours.

Welcome to Your Opportunity for Change

The Wayne County Probation Department is committed to helping individuals successfully navigate supervision and permanently end their involvement with the criminal justice system. When you succeed, our entire community benefits.

We encourage you to view your period of supervision not as a punishment, but as a genuine opportunity for personal growth and a fresh start.

Our Mission

We are an agency dedicated to promoting pro-social change, reducing risk and recidivism, and enhancing public safety across Wayne County.

Our Core Services

Probation is your chance to remain in your community instead of being placed into incarceration.

  • Court Conditions: The Court provides a clear set of goals, expectations, and conditions for your supervision.
  • Guidance & Support: You will be paired with a Probation Officer who will actively assist you in making positive behavioral changes.
  • Accountability: Your officer will regularly report your progress and actions directly back to the sentencing Court.

Community Corrections

Community Corrections offers an alternative to jail time, allowing you to maintain community ties through structured monitoring. Our officers supervise individuals participating in:

  • Home Detention: Strict electronic monitoring programs.
  • Community Service: Fulfilling court-ordered service hours.
  • Community Transition Program (CTP): Helping individuals safely transition back into society.

Juvenile Justice (Under 18)

Every youth under the age of 18 who is arrested will meet with a dedicated Juvenile Probation Officer, who serves as the Intake Officer of the Court.

  • Delinquent Offenses: Criminal acts that adults can also commit (e.g., shoplifting, battery, driving without a license).
  • Status Offenses: Non-criminal violations that only youth can commit (e.g., truancy from school, curfew violations, underage drinking, running away).
  • Collaborative Solutions: The Intake Officer works closely with the arresting agency, the youth’s family, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, and the defense attorney to recommend the best path forward.
  • Flexible Pathways: Depending on the case, youth may be offered an informal plan, or their case may be reviewed by a Judge to determine the best outcome.
